Comparison between Sodium Salicylate in a buffered hydroglycerin vehicle and Polydocanol"Doppler is blind." Back in 1993, an experimental comparison was carried out between polydocanol and a solution of sodium salicylate in a buffered hydroglycerin vehicle. This revealed that, for equal efficacy, the latter solution was superior in terms of the constancy of its action and the absence of side-effects. This is not surprising, as the formulation of this solution is recent and therefore takes into account the need to achieve an aesthetic result. By contrast, the sclerosants currently on the market were formulated at a time when such a need was not felt. Polydocanol was chosen as a control drug because, before the formulation of sodium salicylate in a buffered hydroglycerin vehicle, it was the solution that was best tolerated and caused the fewest side-effects.
